If your municipality’s tap water doesn’t include fluoride, your dentist may also recommend in-office fluoride treatments for added protection.

Dry mouth can cause discomfort, but there are ways to manage it. Try a moisturizing mouthwash, chew sugar-free gum, or use artificial saliva, which mimics real saliva. Consult your doctor or dentist if medication is the cause; he or she can adjust your dosage or suggest alternatives.

If you wear dentures, clean them daily using a non-abrasive denture cleaner. Brush your gums and tongue with a soft toothbrush to remove food and bacteria. If you have partial dentures, floss between the implants before reinserting them. Your dentist can provide specific care instructions to extend the life of your dentures.
